I grew up in Denver Harbor, one of the oldest barrios in Houston, Tx, the only child of Raymond and Maria del Carmen Salazar. Growing up in the 80s in Denver Harbor wasn't always easy, it has a bit of a well deserved reputation. But inside the four walls of my little childhood home I never felt that uneasiness. Sure there were struggles and there were situations, but my parents never allowed me to ever see anything else but their love for me. Whatever the struggles were though, every Sunday morning my Dad would walk to Porras bakery and bring home pan dulce. Together the three of us would sit around the table and eat it, with the smell of coffee in the air. In 2012 and 2013, within a span of 6 months, I lost both of my parents...but I have still never lost that feeling of being loved by them or that feeling of togetherness I shared all those "Sunday Mornings with Mom and Dad"    - J.
